Only valuable context is that Blackhole works well with other recording apps, it's an audacity issue. Latest stable version (from /download) Operating system Expected behaviorĪll the other apps (quicktime, screen recorder) can pick up and record the sound, somehow that doesn't work with audacity on Apple silicon with macOS ventura 13.4. I unplug the headphones and close the app. Scenario: Launch Audacity with headphones, with output set to ‘external headphones’, record then playback recording. So I just try to record the computer sounds (actually a video playing) with Blackhole and it either doesn't pick anything or it throws out an error. First things, first: My Mac is OS, Big Sur, V11.4 and my Audacity is 3.0.2. "value": "Error opening recording device.\nError code: -9986 Internal PortAudio error.", Applicatin: Audacity 2.3.2 OS: Windows 10 Version 1903 Build 18362.30 Hardware information: HP Probook 450 G5 p/n ILU55AV Audio Hardware: Conexant ISST Audio Driver Version: 9.0.232. i was on version 2.3.2 then i am new to record sound using Audacity so i have to try this and tried that ( i think i am still have to get it right. I was trying to record sound generated from MS word Read out loud for use in my youtube creation. "event_id": "fe3da171093a4425b01ddeddca2f4fbf", Now i had the latest Version of Audacity 2.4.2 installed. Here attached are my audio settings and the error I get (full text follows below) At other times I did get an error though, when instead of using the multi-output virtual device, I just try to output to the speakers. I've tried transport > rescan audio devices, I've tried to reboot, it still doesn't work. Blackhole does perfectly his job recording the sound from the computer when using any other app but somehow, I don't get audacity to pick up the signal from blackhole. You may get an Error opening sound device message because Audacity isn’t using your preferred devices. I hit confgure, and walla My headphones for some reason were set to 5.1 surround sound. Thats when I noticed the configure button at the bottom. I've no clue how my headphones got changed to 5.1 surround.I've installed the last version of Audacity (3.3.3 for Apple Silicon) on the last version of macOS 13.4 and installed the last version of Blackhole (0.5.0) to record the sound from the computer. Just go to the bottom right and find your audio manager and right click it to bring up all your audio devices. If the computer USB connector appears at all loose, try plugging into a different USB socket. This means that if you open a project that was created on a different computer, Audacity will continue to check for the plugins in the exact same locations as they were on the old computer. If that looks OK, reconnect it and ensure that the lead plugs in securely at both ends. Audacity currently looks for plugins in absolute paths. Once I changed it to stereo, it worked perfectly just like before. Shut down the computer, disconnect the USB lead to the Focusrite Saffire and visually inspect the lead and connectors (in good light). I hit 'confgure', and walla! My headphones for some reason were set to 5.1 surround sound. That's when I noticed the configure button at the bottom. Hi, Is anyone else having this problem whenever you hit the red record button to begin recording with Audacity This just happened out of the blue. Set Format to the same sample rate, bit-depth and number of recording channels as in Audacity. Just go to the bottom right and find your audio manager and right click it to bring up all your audio devices. In Audio Devices, select in turn the required Recording and Playback devices. So I was sure it wasn't my sound device internals or something. I could also record audio from my headphones on another program called bandicam just fine. That's because my computer is putting out stereo, and it's listening for mono, and audacity doesn't like that at all. Sometimes when I set it to 'speakers' in my audio options (that's my headphones), and right next to it its set to mono, I'll get an error. All of a sudden with out having changed any of my settings, I kept getting a " invalid device 9996 error". I've used audacity to record sound when its coming out of my headphones many many times. Other stuff is just troubleshooting process that may help people think through things in different situations.
